Great People Are Doing Great Things!

Chris Dennis & The Balandra Kids

Chris Dennis is one of Trinidad and Tobago’s few professional surfers who have travelled the world competing at ASP events and ranked as high as in the top 500 surfers in the world!

Chris grew up in rural Balandra and did not have an easy road to get where he is. He had constant struggles but with his great will power and determination was able to overcome them and follow his dreams.

Due to a lack of funding he was never fully able to compete and make it to all the events needed to reach his dream of breaking the top 100 surfers. However Chris is not sitting at home dwelling on this he spends any free time he gets trying to help the young generation of Balandra who are walking the same paths as him. Some of them even more difficult, confusing, and rough journeys.

These kids do not have much and are weak in certain areas of their education. Many of them strugling to read. They all live near to the ocean and have a love and passion for surfing. Chris has been able to take their days of riding planks of wood and upgrade them to riding broken hand me down board that Chris spends time repairing.

Chris also helps to educate them and he does not do it the typical way that most kids would do after school by going to a lessons teacher. Chris gets them to read things like a surfing magazine which they love to read and makes sure that they do some sort of educational activity before they are allowed to go out and surf.

It is a handful for Chris but the happiness, smiles, jokes, and constant happiness that the kids express when they are around him and getting to go and surf is worth the work. It is truly amazing what one person can do and the impact that one person can have on many people’s lives. Chris just wants to do good things and give back and if we all be more like him and try put the extra effort to make a little time to give back it would make a huge difference in today’s world.

We will be launching a couple more videos on Chris and “his kids” soon so keep an eye out and help us spread the message. Feel free to post the video link on your facebook wall, twitter, or group emails.

Thank you,

Marcus
